Working with Professor Logan Dancey, students in GOVT 380: Public Opinion and Polling Lab designed and fielded a 2024 election survey. The goal of the survey was to measure Wesleyan students’ opinions about major political issues and their engagement in the 2024 election.
Prior to the 2024 U.S. elections, researchers at the Wesleyan SurveyLab designed a survey covering a wide range of topics, including Americans’ views on candidates, the state of democracy, policy positions, and media consumption habits.
The Wesleyan Survey Lab conducted a pre-election survey in November 2024 of Wesleyan students to gauge student sentiment about the 2024 election. In it, we asked questions to gather information about how, and to what extent, students engage politically.
Using a survey experiment, we find that a newspaper article with a paragraph focusing on the international security impact of the war makes respondents more supportive of humanitarian aid to Ukraine at a statistically significant level as compared to a control article that does not include a paragraph focusing on the international security impact of the war.
